I shall talk about a program called " Sha3er Almayoon" which means “the millionaire Poet” . I love Poems and I do write sometimes, this program is a competition and the winner get a million dirham and “Al Bairag” which is like a flag or a pennant for the millionaire poet.
After long selection tours or rounds around the Arabian gulf only 48 contestants are able to participate and it starts with 8 contestants that compete among each other and then people around the globe vote for who deserve to stay and then the other eight compete and so on.
I like what competitors provide and what they create of high value and lovely poems that helps to enrich the Arabian Culture and the Arabian Gulf Language Poems. I believe that it is good to care and motivate talents and I wish all the contestants don’t participate just for the money or fame. I hope they join to give a value and represent their creativity and distinguish ideas and thoughts. I like it also because I feel it represent UAE culture in the decoration and even the announcers or the show talkers are UAE citizens. What I like the most is When his highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed appears and join the event it makes my heart jump with joy. أشوفك محمد وأناديك زايد
What I don’t like in the program is that the arbitration committee or poem’s judges sometime give points to poets that didn’t deserve it. I know they are better than me and they studied it and read and analyze the powem better than me but it is obvious that some of the poets are not very talented and their poems is only repetition of old ideas and stories redone in nice and balanced way.
I believe they should evaluate on the idea, its cleverness and the way the poet represent his new and wise idea to audience , they also should evaluate depending on all the poems rules that make a particular poet a unique and different.
I have also a question in my mind ,who choose the arbitration committee or the poem’s judges ?? I believe that they have talent but on what standards and values they were chosen?
I believe that there are out there poets and also professors in poem that are better to consider them as poem’s judges or arbitration committee.
when the refree give their evaluation results to the poet there should be criteria that they all follow not only they give their own opinions and each one has different way and opinion. The result of the evaluation is not fair in this way.
what I disagree in this program also is that the audience in the theater should vote for the poet who finished his presentation and this vote take more than 3 minuets to come out and in the end this vote is not counted!!! What the hell? Why then they participate? Just to give the poet a feeling that the audience understand the poem I swear that 70 – 95 % of the audience especially women don’t understand a single word of the poem. There should be more awareness among the audience and also honesty.
Again I really enjoy this program which started yesterday at 10:30 pm on Abu Dhabi channel TV that really takes you away from other stupid programs that has only songs and women dancing and that’s it.
